Passionate Endeavours: Midwives of the Maya

"We can do no great things, only small things with great love." - Mother Teresa

This space is to show our wedding clients a brief glimpse into our other passions and the things we witness that keep us grounded. It is not intended to guilt or impress--it just is.

Maria Cucul is a midwife for her community, Tuila, a small Mayan village about 8 hours drive from Guatemala City. She works for no pay and is barely supplied by donations and with the help of the NGO, SEVA. Perhaps one of the most astonishing things is that nearly every birth Maria has attended (more than 200) has been carried to full term (40 weeks).
