Passionate Endeavours: Alotenango Dump Girls

Claudia (11) and Carmen (10) work alongside a small group of women and one man collecting plastic and other trash for money in a dump just outside La Antigua, Guatemala, one of the most touristed cites in Central America.

They work long hours each day and a weeks worth of toil brings them about $7 US. They do not attend school regularly because their mother needs their meager income. The NGO that is trying to help them and their sister and brothers, The God's Child Project, say it is only a matter of time until they become prostitutes at one of the local brothels.
